The horror, the horror

Jimmy Buffett is the undisputed king of cruise music. We entered the ship to the strains of "Margaritaville." "He Went to Paris" was with us at lunch. We left to the strains of "Boat Drinks," "Come Monday" and "Fins." No other artist had more than one number played.

In between was a parade of one-hit wonders: "Who Let the Dogs Out," "Celebration," "Brick House," "I Will Survive," "I Get Around," "Good Vibrations," "Taking Care of Business," "Shout," "Tequila," "We're An American Band" (played at pool side while the guy in the chaise lounge in front of me engaged in a Tourette's singalong, exploding with phrases at odd moments.) And, of course, the Macarena.
