LOOK in any history book about comic strips, and I guarantee you won't find anything about James Childress. His "Conchy" comic strip ran from 1970 to 1977 before he ended the run by killing himself. A quarter-century later, no reprints of his collections are in stock, there are no fan sites on the Internet.

He has been forgotten.
